If You Don’t Have an Idea for What to Write, You Can Write a “Cliche.” Here’s Why.

“We win, Gracie.”

Harry Stamper said with a heavy heart, knowing what he had to do.

He activated the nuclear bomb, ready to save the world but sacrificed himself.

As the asteroid split and drifted away from Earth, people cheered, feeling relieved and happy.

But Grace, Harry’s daughter, couldn’t join the celebration.

Tears filled her eyes as she realized her dad, her hero, was gone forever.

Yep, this is my favorite scene from "Armageddon.”

I remember it well because I’ve watched the movie more than a hundred times.

Okay, if you’ve seen the movie, you know the plot is cliche: a chosen group tries to save the world from an asteroid.

But the reason I’ve watched it so many times isn’t because of the plot, but because of the emotions.

I need to immerse myself in those feelings.

I always feel:

  • Charmed by Grace (Liv Tyler)’s face.
  • Hopeful when they decide to fly the plane to drill into the asteroid.
  • Sad when Harry Stamper (Bruce Willis) sacrifices his life for his daughter (and the…
