My journey to become a Data Analyst starts now
Hi, I’m Ron Markley.
Being a house-husband? It’s been a joy-filled journey so far!
Before this chill house-husband gig, I was deep into the world of business analysis.
Picture me, sipping my coffee, going through a mountain of reports, and then breaking them down for my boss.
I got to know these reports pretty well, but always from the side of the reader, never the one making them.
You know those reports that just click?
The ones that are so clear and beautifully presented that you think, ‘Whoever did this, you’re awesome!’ I love those.
Not only do they stand out aesthetically, but they simplify complex data, making my life so much easier. A well-crafted report is like a map of the maze, showing the way amidst complexity and confusion.
Fast-forward
After two joyous years of homemaking and watching my wife set off on her own new adventure, I thought, “Why not start my own?”
So here I am, on the road to becoming a Data Analyst.
Why I Want to Become a Data Analyst
Firstly, Data Analysis, to me, is this magical blend of tech and art.
It’s not just about crunching numbers; it’s about weaving those numbers into a compelling narrative.
Essentially, it’s like being a wizard who tells captivating stories using data! I’ve always appreciated a good story, and I remember those moments when a clear, well-told data story would illuminate the path to smarter decision-making.
Secondly, it’s about the aspiration.
I aspire to be that person who crafts those reports, turning data into tales that guide and inspire better choices.
Oh, and speaking of crafting, my wife always raves about how I keep our home spotless.
Makes me wonder, maybe I’ve got a gift for tidying up data? Just a fun thought!
Just a fun thought!
So, what’s my ultimate goal?
I envision myself in a Data Analyst role in the coming years. But before I reach that milestone, I aim to craft 100 dashboards. Yes, a full 100!
Delving into these datasets won’t be a walk in the park. I anticipate challenges and moments of struggle. However, I believe that the hurdles I face and overcome can serve as lessons for others.
If my journey, with its ups and downs, can pave a smoother path for someone else venturing into this field, then all the effort will be doubly worthwhile.
Now, the game plan?
I’m diving into Power BI, DAX, and Power Query to paint those data stories. Python’s on my list to play around with the data, and SQL to fetch and dissect data from databases.
And of course, I’m brushing up on storytelling.
Because what’s data without a clear, compelling story, right?
Now, I know what you’re thinking. “What about AI? Aren’t you worried?”
What Do I Think About AI?
Well, I kinda see AI more as friends on this journey than as foes. But, with everything moving at warp speed these days, I’ve realized that just being good at analyzing data? Well, that’s not gonna cut it.
I mean, AI can crunch and analyze data like a pro chef whipping up pancakes. So, if I don’t up my game and really dive deep, adding some serious expertise in other areas along with my data skills, I might find myself outpaced.
Thinking about it can get a bit overwhelming, I won’t lie. But after mulling it over, I’ve made up my mind:
I’m not stepping back.
I’m diving in, ready for the challenges ahead.
Let’s the Journey Begin
Finally, every step in this journey has taught me something valuable.
I’m excited for what the future holds.
If you’ve ever considered diving into data analysis, now’s the time.
Let’s start on this journey together!
