What????

I remember the moment I read this article.

It was my early days on Medium.

Back then, the whole “niche or no niche” thing confused me.

One day, I stumbled across an article on dividend stocks.

I clicked and scrolled down until I hit the CTA.

The writer was talking about dividend stocks.

But she was selling a product on how to fix your sex-life.

What the hell?

Even if Charlie Munger (the legendary investor) sold me a $19 course on how to do the Twister Waist, I swear I wouldn’t buy it.

This is a great example of creating content for the wrong audience because you’re using the wrong strategy.

You might not notice this problem until the day you try to sell something.

If you write for joy, forget about the niche.

You can write whatever the hell you want.

But for creators who want to make some money,

you have to understand the purpose of having a niche or not.

Again, understand the reasons why first, then choose your approach later.

Let’s talk about No niche vs. Niche

No niche: This is the best approach for creators who monetize through ads. Maximizing eyeballs makes you the most money, so you can write about any topic that might go viral.

Niche: This is for creators who want to sell products or services. Why??? Because your content should build trust with your audience. Trust leads to conversion.

Niche or no niche?

The person who can answer is not a guru.

It’s you. The choice is yours.

When I first started, I wrote whatever I wanted.

Then I found the topics I enjoyed writing about.

It turned out to be about writing.

I found myself sitting and writing about it all day.

I don’t know how it happened, but that’s how I found my niche.

Why do you write?

What topics can you spend all day reading about?

What kind of people do you want to connect with?

Answer these 3 questions.

They’ll help you craft your direction.

But if you keep reading about niche or no niche and still don’t find it, start the journey and let life show you the way.
