What if one day AI writes better than you? Will you still write?

Here’s my opinion.

In the next five years, people won’t hire others to write.

They’ll buy an AI agent and let it do the work.

What humans ask $5,000 for, AI will do for $5.

What humans write in a day, AI will write in a second.

This is my prediction after studying Agent AI.

What if AI writes better than I do? Do I still write?

This question plays on repeat in my mind.

It feels like slamming my head into a brick wall.

So, I look at other industries affected by AI to see what happens.

One example is chess.

Humans couldn’t beat computers in the late ‘90s.

But why do people still play?

Because humans enjoy watching other humans play.

But writing is different.

Writing is an art. Consumers enjoy the result, not the process.

If you don’t believe me, ask yourself: does anyone care how Van Gogh painted Starry Night?

Most will know it’s great because it’s rare and valuable.

In the future, no one will care how you write.

Forget ghostwriters, copywriters, and freelancers.

I bet only the top 1% will survive.

The industry will need those who can refine AI work.

What sets that 1% apart?

It’s not consistency, volume, or algorithms.

It’s the ability to understand humans — how they think, feel, and what they crave.

Because readers will always be human.

So, I zoom out.

Thinking in the long term feels like standing at the top of a lighthouse. Things become clearer.

One thing I’ve noticed:

We can’t compete with AI on results. But we can still enjoy the process.

When you sit, frustrated, in front of a blank page, fighting resistance, bleeding onto the first draft, hating what you’ve written, editing, publishing — only to disguise what you’ve already published.

That’s something AI can’t give.

And that’s the reason I will write, even if AI can write faster and better than I can.
